Professional Review

This Norwegian Cruise Line ship, built in 1992, was formerly the Dreamward. The vessel underwent the same stretching process in 1998 as the Norwegian Wind, adding 251 cabins and increasing passenger capacity from 1,246 to 1,748. Norwegian officers and an international crew preside over this 50,760-ton ship, which sails under the Bahamian flag at a maximum speed of 21 knots.

The Norwegian Dream began 2008 with 14-day South American cruises and was repositioned to Boston in May. During the fall, she departs for 7-day Bermuda cruises.

During days at sea, the ship offers plenty of onboard fun, and the full entertainment program at night features Vegas-style extravaganzas, cabaret acts and dancing. Children from 6 to 17 enjoy supervised programs throughout the year, and 3- to 5-year-olds are allowed in on the act in summer and during major holidays.

The ship breaks with traditional cruise-ship design with three dining rooms, each assigned by cabin location. All are attractive and airy, with tiered seating providing terrific sea views through big windows. Passengers are free to dine wherever they choose, and dress is always casual (but no shorts, please). The Sports Bar and Grill serves breakfast and luncheon buffets indoors and out, and The Bistro seats just 78 for dinner by reservation.

Of the 874 cabins, 716 are outsides measuring 160 sq ft, with small sitting areas and picture windows. The 74 staterooms on Norway and Sun decks add balconies, and the 12 Owners' Suites on Sun Deck are top-of-the-line. Window walls, private balconies with whirlpools, and a personal concierge are some of the luxury features in the suites.
