In Singapore, hotels compete heavily for corporate business, especially the big international chains such as the Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton, Marriott and InterContinental. Centered around Orchard Road and the Marina area near Suntec City Convention Centre, they offer every comfort for working travelers, including exclusive business-class rooms with a complimentary hospitality lounge on higher floors.
Asian hotel groups such as Pan Pacific, Mandarin Oriental, Meritus Mandarin and Shangri-La have equally efficient accommodations, but have done a better job incorporating alluring Asian style in decor and creature comforts. At any given point, these hotels are running at high capacity, with up to 80% corporate travelers.
Singapore is experiencing a dire shortage of hotel rooms, so it is recommended to make bookings well in advance and do not count on special discounts, as most hotels run at very high occupancy year-round. A growing number of smaller boutique-hotels are located just outside the Orchard Road hotel strip and in Chinatown. They're lighter on amenities but heavy on ambience.
