Cyprus Hotel Guide

Guide to Cyprus Hotels

Accommodations range from the deluxe beachside resorts to small local inns, monasteries and basic, nonrated hotels. Some of the hotels in Greek Cyprus have spectacular spas, rated among the best in the world. In Nicosia, there are several business hotels. You can camp at Troodos, Polis, Paphos and Ayia Napa. You can also choose to stay in "agrotourism" houses, which offer accommodations in restored historic buildings in villages with traditional architecture—they're highly recommended. A booklet and a list of properties is published by the Cyprus Tourism Organization. Note that if you are looking for a villa, it is unlikely to be on the beach. Most of the seafront land has been allocated to hotel development, not private homes. Villas tend to be located outside the resorts, often in the hills, so be sure to book one with a pool. Most hotels are very clean. If you're staying in one of the monasteries, be sure to behave respectfully and leave a donation. In the height of summer (July and August), the island is extremely busy with Europeans on package holidays, and finding accommodation on an ad hoc basis can be difficult.
