Accommodations include small offshore resorts, locally run hotels, inns, guesthouses and people's homes (a great way to get to know the people), few of them first-class. The better properties should be booked far in advance.
The most famous is the International Dateline Hotel on the Nuku'alofa waterfront. Its Chinese owners have added a new wing of comfortable rooms, but the old wings were left untouched and remain inadequate. Also, hot water can unexpectedly cease even in the new wing.
