Hidden away in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, near the Big Sur River, this operation is more of a summer camp for families than an actual hotel, though renovations over the last few years have bridged the gap, somewhat.
This state-owned endeavor operates as a concession, with the lowest bidder in charge; a similar set up to Curry Camp in Yosemite, but the accommodations here are cozier and more comfortable and attractive, which is the antithesis of the posh, pricey Post Ranch just up the road.
