Confederate President Jefferson Davis attended the church in his latter years, but it is the more recent history of Hurricane Camille in 1969 that makes it important to locals. The hurricane memorial, with a tile mosaic, lists the names of Biloxians who died or vanished during that storm and notes the three unidentified bodies the waters left behind. The memorial was damaged by Katrina but has been repaired. The church was destroyed by Katrina and will be rebuilt elsewhere, but its metal skeleton will remain as a mute reminder of the fury of the hurricane. Highway 90 at Bellman Street, Biloxi.
