A coastal town, Bir 'Ali is normally seen as a stopover on the drive from Aden to Al Mukalla. That's a pity, really, because the town has enough of interest to justify an overnight stay (though that would entail camping along the shore—there are no accommodations in town). Among the nearby attractions are the ruins of Qana (from the 1st century AD), where you can see ancient temples and the Husn al Ghurab fortress. 245 mi/395 km northeast of Aden.
