Calgary Vacation Planning Guide

Communication Tips for Calgary

Pay phones are available throughout the city, mostly concentrated in the downtown core. The cost is Can$0.35 per call. You do not need to dial an area code before placing a local call. Pay phones accept exact change or credit cards. Phone cards are available for purchse at most convenience stores such as Mac's or 7-11, and also at most gas stations.

Cell-phone coverage is excellent in the entire Calgary area and along major highways. If travelling to the mountains, you may experience some loss of cell-phone coverage in pockets, but generally the coverage is very good.

Internet Access

Internet cafes and other places with online access are fairly prevalent in Calgary. Most downtown hotels offer high-speed Internet access in guest rooms. Calgary now has four public Wi-Fi zones downtown: Olympic Plaza, the Central Library on Sixth Avenue and Macleod Trail Southeast, the Atrium of the Calgary Municipal Building between Sixth and Seventh avenues on Macleod Trail Southeast, and the 100 block of the Stephen Avenue Walk. Wireless zones are continually expanding. For the most recent information, visit http://www.wirelesscity.ca.
