Carmel is about as tranquil and crime-free a place to visit as you can imagine—just as you'd expect where Dirty Harry was mayor. Take the usual commonsense precautions on your visit to Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula. Dangerous rip tides are a fact of life and caution should be used when swimming or wading.
Dos & Don'ts
Do not delay in making a golfing reservation on the area's courses.
Do consider bringing the family pet.
Do travel 17-Mile Drive. It is one of the prettiest roads in the U.S. and should not be missed.
