Passport/Visa Requirements: A small leisurely town of about 10,000, set on a hillside 13 mi/21 km east of Ocho Rios. The name Oracabessa is derived from the Spanish
oro cabeza, meaning "golden head." Below the town, near a marina that was once a banana-loading dock, you can enjoy the delights of one of the trendiest private beaches on the island, James Bond Beach, for a small admission fee.
James Bond's creator, writer Ian Fleming, came up with the idea for the suave, fearless and mysterious 007 while on duty in the British Naval Intelligence in Jamaica in 1942. Fleming bought a house in Oracabessa in 1946 and spent winters there until his death in 1964. His estate is now part of the Goldeneye Villas Resort. (You may need to have Bond slip you a few gold bars to afford it.) The property is also used as part of the annual James Bond Festival held around September.
Time Zone: Daylight Saving Time is not observed.
