Tallahassee Things to See & Do Guide

Tallahassee Shopping

Shopping in Tallahassee, as in many U.S. cities, is dominated by suburban chain stores. The two large malls in town, the Tallahassee Mall on North Monroe Street and the Governor's Square Mall on Apalachee Parkway, have department stores and national chains, as well as some local and regional options. For an unusual shopping destination, try Betton Place on Thomasville Road. You'll find a museum shop, jewelry stores and fine-gift shops.

For retro clothing and home furnishings, original art and unusual imports, visit Railroad Square Art Park, home to more than 80 galleries, studios and shops. On the first Friday of each month, when Tallahassee art galleries all around town stay open late, Railroad Square is hopping. It is where you'll find local literati, punks, artists and bohemians. Hours vary. It's just south of the Capitol. 567 Industrial Drive. 850-224-1308.

On Saturdays in March-November, Tallahasseeans head to the Downtown Marketplace at the corner of Park and Monroe streets. The outdoor bazaar features arts and crafts, great food, live music and fresh produce sold by area farmers.

For antiques shopping in a quaint town, drive to Havana, about 16 mi/26 km north of Tallahassee. Its old storefronts are filled with unique antiques shops, interior-design stores, bookshops and restaurants.

Shopping Hours: Stores in malls and shopping centers are normally open Monday-Saturday 10 am-9 pm, Sunday noon-6 pm. Independent stores' hours vary, but they generally close at 6 or 7 pm.
