Professional Review

Within walking distance of the train station, near commercial interests and the shopping district, this fine commercial hotel provides better all-around service and accommodations than the Turin Palace, but it fails to match the offerings at the superior Golden Palace. Like its closest competitor, this hotel is yet another restored art-deco gem, but the interiors have been reworked with considerable artist's license, accented with colorful contemporary flourishes. This place is more likely to appeal to traditionalists than purists. Business travelers are its bread and butter.

Reminiscent of an urban Hyatt, this attractive brick-trimmed, 12-story hotel boasts a soaring atrium. The stylish lobby is fitted with sparkling marble surfaces and plump designer furnishings upholstered in earth tones. The staff here is among this chain's finest, a well-dressed crew that appears genuinely concerned with the guest experience. This bodes well with the limited number of leisure travelers that find their way here.

The hotel is a bit short on common areas. Guests can choose to relax in the adjoining bar and eye a local football game on the flat-screen TV. The rose-color restaurant offers solicitous service and good Piemontese menu. It will win no awards for style, but the fact that locals drop in is always a good sign. The supplement for breakfast is steep.

The small, well-equipped gym is the only recreational option. The meeting space shows authentic 1930s touches. The period ballroom can seat 150, business services are provided and parking is in the hotel's garage. Pets are not permitted.

The accommodations are of fair size, with colorful contemporary and art-deco accents, angular seating in corner sitting areas, straight-back headboards attached to firm new mattresses, and stylish desks atop parquet floors. Flat-screen TVs, phones with data ports, wireless Internet access, minibars and safes are standard. The baths are bright but compact marble caves equipped with hair dryers, bidets and adequate toiletries. Turndown service is perfunctory, but speedy room service operates around the clock.

This hotel offers more economical rates than the superior Golden Palace, but its pared-down facilities put it a full rung down in the ranks. This hotel will appeal to midrange travelers looking for a stylish, well-priced hotel in the heart of the city.
