Professional Review

This modern seven-story brick property has its own marina and is located on the fringe of the Inner Harbour away from much of the bustle except for the seaplanes. Polished marble floors and mahogany pillars frame sitting areas furnished with deep leather couches to create a bright and inviting lobby.

An attractive waterfront room with a panoramic harbor view, the stylish split-level Blue Crab restaurant is open for three meals a day, specializing in fresh seafood and grilled meats accompanied by local wines. Lighter meals are served in the lounge from 3 to 10 pm.

Health buffs enjoy the fitness center, with its indoor-outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna and exercise room. A private 42-slip marina, just outside the door, offers daily or monthly mooring.

The five meeting rooms include a ballroom that accommodates up to 120, as well as smaller spaces that each hold up to 40, and come with all the high technology conferees could want. The terraces are often enlisted for wedding receptions and other functions. A miniscule business center just off the lobby houses a computer with complimentary Internet access and a printer.

Underground parking is available for a moderate fee. A free shuttle delivers guests to the center of town, and there is a harbor taxi stop for easy conveyance across the famous port.

The air-conditioned guest rooms, done in contemporary beige, brown and turquoise, are generally spacious, with refrigerators, coffeemakers, irons and ironing boards, TVs, queen or king or two double beds, older-style combination baths, free local calls and small balconies with views. Phones have data ports with voice mail, and high-speed Internet access is free.

Top-floor premium floors offer robes, triple-sheeted beds, business necessities and cordless phones, as well as larger balconies. All rooms are smoke-free, pets are allowed for a nightly fee and room service is always on call.

A friendly staff and large, air-conditioned rooms at reasonable rates makes this place popular with families in summer, business travelers in fall and winter, and tour groups year round. The waterfront setting is similar to that of the Inn at Laurel Point with a price that compares favorably.
