Warwick Travel Guide

Warwick Guide Overview

Located minutes from Providence and a half-hour from Newport, Warwick is the state's second most-populous city. The city is favored for its two dozen marinas on Narragansett Bay and 40 mi/65 km of coastline. On a sunny day, visit Goddard Memorial State Park, where you'll find a nine-hole golf course, 18 mi/28 km of bridle trails, 355 picnic tables, hiking trails, saltwater beaches, fishing and the Carousel Performing Arts Center for concerts and special events. This 489-acre/197-hectare park is in a section of Warwick called Potowomut. It means "Land of Fire" in the language of the native Narragansett Indians, who named this neck of land more than 300 years ago.

On a rainy day, you can either head for the Warwick Museum (changing exhibitions of regional art) or for one of the area's two large shopping malls, which attract visitors from all over southern New England. Warwick is 9 mi/14 km south of Providence.
