Steps from the Basilica is the St. Boniface Museum, the oldest building in Winnipeg and the largest oak-log structure in North America. Louis Riel attended school there, and the museum boasts the largest collection of Riel artifacts in Canada. The museum's exhibits focus on French Canadian life in the 19th century, as well as that of the Metis. Open Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm, Sunday noon-4 pm (closed Saturday).
