Set in a quiet neighborhood of 18th- and 19th-century homes, two blocks west of the harbor, this gracious Victorian inn in many ways outdoes its sibling Cliffside Inn. Those enthralled by authentic mid-19th-century surroundings will feel that they are living in a museum. For some, however, that stiff museum quality is taken too far, prompting some guests to wander about on tiptoes. The calmer, subdued Francis Malbone House is a good choice for sophisticated bulls.
