Agana Travel Guide

Agana Guide Overview

Formerly known as Agana, Guam's capital is a tidy village of about 1,100. Although it was founded in the 17th century, most of Hagatna's buildings date from after World War II. Plan to spend a half-day there to see the Plaza de Espana (government buildings and gardens), the Catholic cathedral, the 17th-century Spanish Fort Santa Agueda and Latte Park (large stone pillars used to support ancient buildings). The public market called Chamorro Village offers produce, inexpensive local foods and has a popular Wednesday-night market. There are many good restaurants in this village, and the Agana Shopping Center has reopened.
