Located east of Fort Smith, Altus is the site of several wineries, but these aren't jump-on-the-bandwagon newcomers. Both the Wiederkehr and Post Familie wineries were founded in 1880. A third, the Mount Bethel Winery, joined them sometime later. All offer free tours and wine tastings. If you've always wanted to stomp grapes, be in Altus in late July for the Grapefest, or again in the fall for the Wiederkehr September Weifest. 100 mi/160 km northeast of Little Rock.
