Located on a tributary of the Rio Negro, this hotel is perched on a rise in the rain forest. Arriving guests will find seamless transfer from the airport to the dock for the 30-minute boat ride to the lodge. The property is a short walk from the dock and beach area. Founded on the multifaceted principles of conservation and education, guests who book here knowingly come prepared for the outdoorsy, yet pleasant experience.
Reception is in an open-air pavilion among rustic furniture with scarlet macaws roosting on the beams. The round, open-air restaurant serves buffet meals on an all-inclusive basis. Meals are varied and suited to the international clientele. Bar service is available at an added cost. The bar and lounge afford great views of the river.
A small meeting room, a pavilion and
a restaurant constitute the public spaces at this lodging. Conducting business gains an extra step here as guests are issued "eco money" instead of traditional currency to use during the stay within the premises.
The freshwater river-fed pool, beach, massage room, hammocks and kayaks provide on-site diversion while nearly six miles of trails weave through the jungle for adventurists. There is a small gift shop on the premises. All-inclusive packages include full board, transfers, bilingual guides, and ecological tours that range from nature walks to piranha fishing to a visit to an indigenous village.
A visit to the lodge's private monkey forest is usually included. It is the only lodge in the region with authorization to receive, treat and rehabilitate monkeys that have been confiscated
from poachers. The rehabilitated monkeys are released into the wild whenever possible. Perhaps as a result, other pets are not allowed.
The 20 bungalows, each with three guest rooms, are scattered in the rain forest providing exclusivity without separating guests from the main facilities. The bungalows are basic and have screened windows, shutters, air conditioning, twin or double beds, a small table and chairs, and a porch.
One unit has four single beds, but the decor and services are equal in all rooms. Native handicrafts, carpeting and artwork provide minimal decoration, and simple wooden furnishings and concrete surfaces remind guests that this is indeed what they came for.
Baths, too, are basic but they do provide hot water showers and simple toiletries. Electricity is by generator with scheduled interruptions.
While all buildings are accessible by walkways, guests only easily traverse this property with mobility. Smoke-free rooms are available. There is no room service and meals are not available outside of scheduled meal times.
This is the only jungle lodge within an hour of Manaus. Most of the other jungle camps are "up river." It is worth noting that there are relatively few mosquitoes in the area of EcoPark Lodge due to the black water of the Rio Negro although netting is still provided in all guest units.
