Set on the banks of the Euphrates River, A'na is one of the oldest towns in Iraq (it dates from early Assyrian times), but it may soon cease to exist.
Because of the construction of Qadissida Dam in
Haditha, about 60 mi/100 km away, this historical town is scheduled to be submerged and a new town is being built on higher ground nearby.
80 mi/130 km northwest of Baghdad.
