This modern brick-and-glass building occupies a prime location in downtown Anchorage. The lobby is decorated with Alaska Native masks, and its vibrant floral carpeting is frequently a subject of contention among locals. From mid-May to mid-September, the Sydney Lawrence Theater within the building offers AurorA, a 40-minute slide show on the northern lights, set to original music, shown hourly 9 am-9 pm for US$10. Consider taking in an evening concert or theater performance if you have time; check the center's Web site for event schedules. The park beside the building overflows with brightly colored flowers in the summer months and is home to a popular skating rink and ice sculptures in the winter. 621 W. Sixth Ave., Anchorage.
