A central-city hotel will put you in a good position to see the city's attractions. Several of the city's most prestigious properties are found there, and plans are under way to add more hotels to the area. A number of boutique-hotels and spas cater to well-to-do visitors and the celebrities who seem to slip in and out of town with increasing frequency. A property of historical note is the Driskill Hotel, which dates to 1885, on Sixth Street downtown.
Rooms become scarce in March, when the South by Southwest (SXSW) music, film and interactive conferences are in town.
