Maine's original Native American population still thrives today. Changing and permanent exhibits highlight the culture, history and impact of the Wabanaki people through the centuries. The museum maintains two locations, one in downtown Bar Harbor and a second location at Sieur de Monts Spring in Acadia National Park. The downtown Abbe is located in a landmark 1893 building that once housed the YMCA. It offers 17,000 sq ft/1,580 sq m of space, including a wonderful teepeelike room in the rear. Open downtown mid-April to mid-May Thursday-Saturday 10 am-4 pm; from mid-May to November daily 10 am-6 pm. Sieur de Monts location open from the end of May to end of October daily 9 am-4 pm.
