Barbados has a variety of accommodations, ranging from deluxe resorts to locally owned inns. There is a wider choice of moderately priced accommodations available than on some other Caribbean islands. In our experience, most of the hotels in Barbados are clean and fairly well-managed. It's very important to consider location when selecting a place. Be aware that some are quite isolated and have only infrequent or no shuttle service to town (taxis can cost Bds$40 or more each way), and others are conveniently located in residential areas. Many fine hotels are set amid tropical gardens along the Platinum Coast (also known as the Gold Coast) between Bridgetown and Speightstown. Along the coast south of Bridgetown, accommodations tend to be more reasonably priced and tucked into residential areas.
