More than 600 Maya ruins have been identified in Belize, and there may be hundreds more still hidden by the jungle. The most frequently visited are Altun Ha, Lamanai and Xunantunich because they are fairly easy to get to and can include interesting nature tours. Consider going on an organized tour with a guide. In our experience, guides are well-trained and knowledgeable, and groups are usually small. Expect to pay BZ$160-$250 for a full-day tour from Belize City, with drinks and lunch included. If you get to the site with your own transport (rented car, taxi or public bus), you can pick up a guide when you buy your ticket, and it will cost only a few dollars a person.
