This hotel, in a coveted central location, next to the Meridien, a five-minute taxi ride from the train station, is the best small hotel in Casablanca. Despite its compact stature and modest rates, this boutique-hotel offers better and more consistently maintained accommodations than the Mercure and Safir hotels.
Set in an uninteresting nine-story concrete building, this clean, comfortable and even occasionally stylish hotel has a bright marble reception area abutting a small but evocative Moroccan lounge.
A comely, unfurnished courtyard gives depth and light to the compact garden-style cafe featuring gingham tablecloths and a simple international menu with notable French highlights. Also overlooking the central courtyard is an inviting fireplace lounge, which shows handsome traditional seating in mint-green tones. The cozy bar is a popular gathering spot, and the nightclub dazzles locals and visitors alike with its imported mirrored ball, laser lights and Blaupunkt sound system. A nightly dinner show plays on-site (perhaps a first for a Best Western property).
A small meeting room accommodating 20 people,
limited business services, a gift shop and parking round out the amenities.
The well-equipped, average-size guest quarters show soft carpeting, silky fabrics in emerald color schemes, well-maintained wood-trimmed furniture, TVs atop bureaus and closets with safes. Phones, air-conditioning, and bright, tiled baths with hair dryers and WCs are in all. However, the severely dated look is suffocating to the design-conscious, allowing for affordable time travel to a chintzier era. Fading colors and distressed edges on the furniture are indicators that a renovation is needed. Suites expand upon the interior space, but not the interior decoration.
Room service stops at midnight. Some pets are permitted, and nearly a dozen rooms are set aside for nonsmokers. The attentive, English-speaking staff is rightfully house-proud of this sound, economical choice conveniently located for business and leisure travelers. Kudos to this homegrown hotel with an international affiliation and clientele, but management seems a little too distracted to address guest needs.
