This beacon of freedom opened to national fanfare in August 2004. Cincinnati was once a major hub along the Underground Railroad, used to transport escaped slaves from the South to Canada. The experience provided is profound, as visitors learn about the struggles of freedom through many interactive displays, exhibits and programs. The museum center comprises three buildings said to symbolize courage, cooperation and perseverance—the cornerstones of freedom. Open Tuesday-Sunday 11 am-5 pm.
