In Delaware's major cities, accommodations range from budget motels to luxury hotels. The state has many charming small inns that are perfect for a relaxing weekend in the country. Wilmington's Hotel du Pont is a deluxe 1913 landmark that displays original paintings by three generations of the Wyeth family in its art collection. Delaware's beach lodgings are busiest in the summer, so book early for accommodations June-August. May and September are equally enjoyable months at the beach, and rates are lower and crowds smaller. For those who enjoy a brisk walk along a boardwalk in cooler weather, October and November are also good months, and most restaurants and other services are still open. December-March, a lot of beach establishments are closed or are open only on weekends. The ones that do stay open tend to have bargain rates. Most places require a two-night minimum for weekend reservations and a three-night minimum for holiday weekends. Some visitors find that renting a beach house for a week or two is often less expensive than staying at a hotel.
