Chad Things to See & Do Guide

Chad See & Do Guide

Although shopping is rather limited, you can pick up a number of interesting souvenirs. These include Tibesti carpets, ornate Abeche footstools (poufs), embroidered shirts and drawings of daily life. The artisan centers have good selections, but prices are higher than elsewhere.

Shopping Hours: Monday-Saturday 8 am-1 pm and 4-7 pm.

Day By Day

Because of poor road conditions and the unpredictability of local airlines (not to mention the intermittent fighting), an exact itinerary is almost impossible to keep in Chad. Versatility and patience are the keys. For the present, we would not recommend going to the mountains in the north. Stay south of the 16th parallel. The following is a rough outline of what a visit might include.

Day 1—Arrive N'Djamena.

Days 2-4—N'Djamena, make travel arrangements.

Day 5—Fly to Sarh and hire a truck and driver for Zakouma Park.

Days 6-8—Tour Zakouma Park.

Day 9—Drive to Kyabe.

Day 10—Drive to Abeche, which you'll use as a base to tour Ouara.

Day 11—Tour Ouara. Return to Abeche to spend the night.

Day 12—Return to N'Djamena.

Day 13—Depart Chad.
