On a crescent-shaped beach 10-minute's drive from the airport, this is the only deluxe resort on the island. Seven bay houses and nine villas are spread out comfortably along well maintained grounds. The lobby is welcoming with gleaming dark wood floors and comfortable sofas. Guests are greeted with lemonade and chilled towels. Bahamian music rises into a small dome with natural lighting.
The elegant Italian restaurant Il Cielo and its accompanying bar feature high wooden ceilings and window-walls that look out on ocean and pool views for a romantic dinner setting. Light fare is served poolside at the Sea Breeze Grill and delivered to rooms round the clock.
The emphasis here is on recreation. Iced water, chilled towels and Evian spray bottles are handed out at the three pools, one of which is for children, another only for adults, and guests can take shelter from the sun on canopied lounge chairs around the main free-form pool. The beach is lined by small dunes and native sea oats that separate it from the rest of the grounds, which also seek to preserve the natural look of the island. A kids’ club offers daily activities from 9am-5pm for children 5-12. Greg Norman designed the 18-hole golf course, with six holes bordered by ocean. Tennis facilities include six lighted Har-Tru courts. The fitness center features state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment with personal TV sets, along with aerobics classes. Spa treatments are administered in 17 rooms and two outdoor cabanas, and a Zen garden completes the picture.
The 100-slip marina is still under construction and will be capable of docking yachts the size of small destroyers. Eight meeting spaces are available, the largest handling up to 423 theatre-style.
Guests find welcome macaroons in their rooms upon arrival. Accommodations are in cottage clusters, each with living areas, huge bathrooms and ocean or golf course views. Three bedroom villas are also offered, along with one-bedroom beachfront suites with additional sofa beds. Corner rooms can be joined and shut off with a special door for both. The typical Four Seasons amenities—elaborate vanities, towels the size of national flags, CD and DVD players, slippers, robes, down pillows—are standard in all rooms, along with wood furniture, two-poster king or two double beds, mini-bars, refrigerators, coffeemakers, laptop-sized safes, irons with ironing boards, data ports and Internet access, and in-room backup power supply for the occasional island power outages. Baths offer double basins with marble counters, tubs with separate showers, L’Occitane amenities, hair dryers, phones and shaving mirrors.
This is the only option for large luxury on Exuma; guests who prefer Ma and Pa hospitality and character will prefer smaller operations such as Peace and Plenty.
