Colorful Gangtey, located in the central region, isn't often visited by foreigners because it's somewhat remote and difficult to get to.
We suggest at least a one-night stay for those who venture there. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the feeling that we were about as far from the Western world as it's possible to be. The best time to visit Gangtey is November-April, when the black-neck cranes are in residence and roads are not blocked by monsoon-created landslides. You can also visit Gangtey Gompa, a monastery from the 1600s.
