Gorges-Du-Tarn Travel Guide

Gorges-Du-Tarn Guide Overview

This 50-mi-/80-km-long gorge, running 1,200-1,500 ft/360-450 m deep, is one of the most breathtaking natural sights in France. Start your visit near the town of Millau, about 85 mi/140 km northwest of Avignon. Allow several hours to see the gorge in a flat-bottomed boat by day or night (some parts of the river walls are lit up on summer evenings). Viaduc de Millau, a bridge that spans the gorges, is one of the highest in the world and allows for easier access to the region—and the view is incredible. Also of interest is Aven-Amand, a cave in the area, which has 400 giant stalagmites.
