This is the only major town between Alberta and Yellowknife. Hay River is divided into a new town and an older area that sprawls across Vale Island. There you'll find an interesting collection of fishing boats, Coast Guard vessels and an almost-abandoned fishing village. 190 mi/310 km south of Yellowknife.
