The city of High Point (15 mi/25 km southwest of Greensboro) is a major furniture center that hosts an international home furnishings market each April and October. At the High Point Market, which is closed to the public, producers from all over the world present their latest designs to the trade. Many visitors go to the area to buy furniture at numerous retail stores such as Furnitureland South, among the nation's largest furniture stores. An 85-ft/26-m highboy facade towers over the front-door entrance there. The city's Furniture Discovery Center museum is the nation's only museum devoted to showing how furniture is made. The High Point Museum and Historical Park also exhibits furniture and fashions from the past. The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival takes place in High Point in August and September. 95 mi/153 km west of Raleigh.
