Hotel accommodations in Honduras are slowly but surely improving in every budget class, although there are still few hotels that would be considered high end. The trade-off is that prices are very reasonable, from the backpacker level to the top end of the scale, and a lot of the Honduran hotels have impressive colonial architecture and plenty of personality.
Hotels on Roatan tend to appeal to divers, and the accommodations take a back seat to the dive center and the bar, although this is changing as more regular vacationers discover the island.
On the mainland, luxury is hard to find, but the values are tremendous. In general, expect service to be casual and friendly, not polished and professional. English proficiency is seldom an issue.
