Libya Travel Guide

Libya Guide Overview

If Libya's spectacular Roman ruins were located anywhere else in the world, they would be thronged with tourists. But until recently, for most travelers, the ruins might as well have been on the moon. Because of ruler Col. Muammar Qaddafi's alleged involvement with international terrorism, the country was considered a pariah state for years.

Now that U.N. sanctions have been suspended and the U.S. travel ban lifted, perhaps those gorgeous ruins will be crowded with travelers sometime soon. Already, European travelers are making their way to Libya in growing numbers, attracted by the impressive ancient monuments and cities—in equally impressive seaside locations—the timeless splendor and tranquility of the desert, and the warm climate. And for some, the fact that Libya represents a new, emerging destination only adds to its appeal.
