Also called Elevador do Carmo, this eclectic, neo-Gothic iron lift was constructed between 1898 and 1901 by a student of Gustave Eiffel. Its two wooden cabins, which can carry 25 people, connect the Lower and Upper City. There is a great view (and cafe) over the Baixa from its platform. Open daily 9 am-9 pm. Rua de Santa Justa, Lisbon.
