Opened in early 2008, the Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya was operating for less than a year at inspection, yet it has already established itself as the watermark for luxury on the Riviera Maya. With a mere 128 rooms the hotel qualifies as an honest-to-goodness boutique hotel, but the atmosphere, service, dining and accommodations are that of a deluxe, international-standard hostelry that would compete anywhere.
