Occupying a fine beaux-arts building designed by Alfred Zucker (who was also responsible for St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York), this is no standard Marriott, and the portrait of the Marriott brothers in the lobby looks comically out of place. This 1909 monument is one of the most graceful structures in the capital. The carved-stone structure sits in dignified historic isolation on a leafy corner at the head of the Florida promenade.
