The most convenient hotels are in the city center, but those in the Southbank precinct, East Melbourne, Albert Park and South Yarra are also within easy distance of most tourist attractions.
Advance reservations are recommended and are essential at busy times of the year, especially during the Formula 1 Grand Prix (first weekend in March), the AFL football final (September) and the Spring Racing Carnival and Melbourne Cup (late October-early November).
