Visitors to Michigan will find a range of accommodations: budget lodgings, historic inns, bed-and-breakfasts and deluxe hotels. Rental cottages are available near the Great Lakes and on inland lakes. Most require a one-week rental, but sometimes shorter stays can be arranged. Private and public campgrounds liberally dot the state. Many of Michigan's resorts offer skiing and golf, depending on the season. Guests at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island can enjoy the same elegance that greeted steamboat travelers in the 1880s and, like the lodgers of yesteryear, they still have to dress up for dinner.
