Munich has some of the best hotels in Germany. Even less expensive properties will go out of their way to make guests comfortable. Note, however, that regardless of category, Munich's hotels are the most expensive in Germany—and all increase rates about 25% during major trade fairs and Oktoberfest.
The most convenient parts of town—at least when you first arrive—are the Hauptbahnhof and Westend areas, which have a number of inexpensive hotels. Be careful there, however: Some of the least expensive options are flophouses, and some may be dangerous. Check with EurAide or the Tourist Office for specific recommendations. Other parts of town are generally very safe and vary little in quality. Generally, the farther from the center and Schwabing you go, the larger the rooms will be, though prices won't vary much.
