There has been a monastery on this site since the sixth century, though the current buildings date mainly from the 16th-18th centuries. The monastery is worth the 4.3-mi/7-km trip to the village of Ano Mera. The most striking feature is the altar screen, which contains some unusual icons from the renowned Cretan School of painting. There is also a small museum. Open daily 9 am-1 pm and 2-7:30 pm. Donation appreciated. On the main square, Ano Mera, Mykonos. Phone 22890-71249.
