Built in 1929, this Moorish-Romanesque temple with its vaulted roof is one of the largest synagogues in the world. The 2,500-seat sanctuary has a marvelous bronze ark in the shape of a Torah scroll, decorated in spectacular mosaics. Be sure to note the radiant stained-glass windows, one of which is an original from Tiffany & Co. The temple regularly hosts concerts, lectures and free tours, including tours after Saturday morning services. 1 E. 65th St. at Fifth Avenue (subway line N or R to Fifth Avenue), Manhattan, New York City.
