George Washington slept just about everywhere—but you'll have to go to this museum to see his army bed, along with thousands of other treasures. The New-York Historical is the city's oldest museum in continuous operation. You can see 135 Tiffany lamps and one of the largest collections of miniature portraits in the nation. There is also a research library with more than 2 million artifacts, 10,000 maps and hundreds of photographs, prints and other documentary materials, including a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation.
