Built in 1583, this structure is the symbol of the city. It's situated in the lovely green expanses of Osaka Castle Park. The building is impressive from the outside, because it's a faithful reconstruction of the original structure. The interior, on the other hand, is modern and bland, although it houses a comprehensive museum spread throughout its eight floors. It includes more than 7,000 pieces of Japanese armor, weapons and materials related to Hideyoshi Toyotomi and the castle. There's an observation floor on top. Daily 9 am-5 pm. Closed 28 December-1 January. ¥600 adults. 1-1 Osakajo (nearest stations: Osakajo-Koen on the JR Loop; Morinomiya on the Chuo subway line; Tanimachi 4-chome on Chuo and Tanimachi subway lines), Chuo-ku, Osaka.
