Accommodations range from very nice first-class properties in the major cities to YMCAs/YWCAs (Port Moresby), guest houses, thatched-roof bungalows and extremely basic hotels. Though accommodations can be expensive (more than US$100 for a double in a tourist-class hotel), we generally recommend staying in as deluxe a property as possible to minimize the potential for problems. Hotels tend to fill up because of celebrations in Port Moresby in mid June, Mt. Hagen in late July and Goroka in mid August.
