Pensacola Beach is situated on Santa Rosa Island across the Pensacola Bay Bridge from Pensacola.
In Pensacola Beach, you can snorkel, sail, Jet Ski, kayak and parasail to your heart's content, as well as fish, bike, shop and play golf. The beach is about 8 mi/13 km long and a quarter-mile/half-kilometer at its widest. The sand is sugary white.
West of the town is Fort Pickens, where the great Apache leader Geronimo was held prisoner in the late 1880s. It lies within the Gulf Islands National Seashore, which runs west to Mississippi.
The fall season in Pensacola Beach is punctuated by two culinary events. Taste of the Beach takes place late September, focusing on gourmet food from the region's best chefs. Art & Wine Weekend is early October, offering free wine tastings.
