Situated on 80 acres on the Atlantic side of the island, directly between Governor's Harbour and Palmetto Point and 13 miles from the Governor's Harbour airport, this new development is the latest project of David Barlyn and Peter Birkwieser, who have had hands in the creation of various upscale resorts, including Pink Sands.
Food is a highlight here, and there are two options: a gourmet deli, and Tippy's, a casual beachside restaurant that boasts some of the best dining on the island for moderate prices.
Seating is either alfresco or inside an airy screened-in dining room with tables fashioned out of old window shutters. Seafood is local and much of the fresh produce is grown at a nearby organic farm. On Saturday nights, live bands play on a stage backed up to the beach on the outside wooden deck.
The beach, across the road from the accommodations, curves for almost a mile and offers some fine snorkeling not far from shore. Snorkeling gear and bicycles are available for rent and there is one tennis court. Scuba
diving, bonefishing and eco-tours can be arranged. A swimming pool was under construction at inspection.
Three two-story yellow buildings house the 12 one-bedroom suites, and five more buildings (consisting of 20 more units) will be added soon. Each suite comes with satellite TVs in both the living room and bedroom, DVD players, remote-controlled air conditioners and multiple ceiling fans, comfortable furniture, safes, irons with ironing boards, and king beds. Tasteful local art adds character to each room. There are decks or patios off the back of each suite and balconies off the front of the sitting area. The full kitchens have granite counters and come fully stocked, and there are washers and dryers in each unit. Combination baths have vanities and hair dryers.
Located in an area that has only just begun to develop, this place presents a good alternative to more commercial operations.
