This property is motelish in standards, a Super 8 by the Sea. Its attributes include location next to the Port Lucaya, which is noisy but lively (avoid rooms in buildings 5 to 10). The beach lies across the street, another plus. Last, but not least, the staff actually deals with complaints rather than sweeping them under the rug.
Although situated across the road from the Westin-Sheraton-Our-Lucaya-Resort-mega-complex, all of the hotel's rooms face the inland harbor or pool. A large public parking lot fronts the 10-building, two-story complex of stucco painted every color of the rainbow, and a 50-slip marina edges its well-tended grounds.
The lobby has a very motel like check-in and faces a tour booth and a small sitting area with a large-screen cable TV. Beyond the entry is a palm-studded lawn with a large pool and whirlpool served by a low-key bar. The restaurant is closed except for special events so guests dine at the wide variety of offerings at the nearby Market Place.
Volleyball and shuffleboard courts and a playground provide diversion, and guests frolic on a white-sand beach five minutes
away. Divers can arrange to swim with sharks or dolphins at the dive shop in the marketplace. A laundry room and babysitting are available.
Noisy air conditioners cool guest rooms that face the pool or marina and are matter-of-factly furnished with terra-cotta floors, cane furniture, tropical prints and floral spreads and drapes. All rooms have TVs, phones, coffeemakers, one king or two double beds, and combination baths with pseudo-marble sinks. Deluxe rooms add refrigerators and microwaves. Smoke-free rooms and one- and two-bedroom suites are offered, but none are handicapped-accessible.
Diving groups, boaters and families rave about the friendly staff, well-maintained accommodations and great location. Guests with boats receive special mooring rates. This is one of the less expensive, more reliable resorts on the island. For a little more money, more comfortable dwellings are available at nearby property the Sheraton Grand Bahama at Our Lucaya. If money is an issue, then guests are close enough to enjoy the amenities of other properties without going over budget.
